2016 was a truly bleak time in American history, but if nothing else at least we finally got a new, albeit final, A Tribe Called Quest album. It had been 18 years since Tribe released their last record The Love Movement way back in 1998, they broke up shortly after, and while they did reunite a few times in the intervening years, those reunions came and went without new albums. So its fair to say that the wait for We Got it From Here…Thank You 4 Your Service was excruciatingly long. But boy was it worth the wait. The guest list alone is nothing short of jaw dropping; hip/hop legends like Andre 3000 and Kendrick Lamar sit along side rock icons like Jack White and Elton John. Plus songs like “We the People” and album opener “The Space Program” are among the best of Tribe’s career and remind everyone why they had been dying to hear one of the greatest rap groups of all time reunite.
