Wow. Every once in awhile a movie comes a long that you can tell pretty much immediately is going to have a profoundly long impact on cinema. It’s not understating it to say that it’s a generational kind of thing. The last animated movie to have the kind of impact that Into the Spider-Verse will end up having was probably Toy Story back in 1995. This isn’t hyperbole, Into the Spider-Verse is that good. It’s the first comic book movie to truly look, feel, and move like a comic book. It takes full advantage of the lack of restrictions that the animated medium has and it pushes everything to it’s limit; whether thats the technology at hand or the development of it’s characters. Plus, it gives the world Nicholas Cage as Spiderman-Noir and John Mulaney as Spider-Pig. If that isn’t the kind of the thing that should be celebrated to the tops of every mountain, what is?
