4. Modern Vampires of the City- Vampire Weekend (2013)

By the time that Vampire Weekend released Modern Vampires of the City in 2013 they had already become one of indie rock’s most beloved bands. Charming songs like “A-Punk”, “Oxford Comma”, “Cousins”, and “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa” ensured that. But the release of Modern Vampires catapulted them to stardom and made them THE most beloved indie rock band in the world. “Unbelievers” and “Diane Young” were the singles that proved to be inescapable and soundtracked the summers of everyone between the ages of 14 and 30, while other tunes like “Hudson”, “Step”, and “Ya Hey” are no less indispensable. Modern Vampires of the City find Vampire Weekend at the top of their game, able to deliver grand sweeping indie rock power pop tunes that feel like only they are able to write them. Vampire Weekend have always had the type of sound that feels like singular to them, but on Modern Vampires they were able to put it all together into one brilliantly cohesive statement and wrote their definitive record.
